Cake Flavors and Fillings

Delicious recipes that are time tested and sooo yummy!

French Vanilla – Rich vanilla flavored cake, slightly cream colored. Traditional sponge cake with a moist texture and mild flavor. French Vanilla pairs well with any of the fruit fillings – lemon, strawberry or raspberry. This flavor is so light, it can really be matched with anything, including vanilla buttercream. This is the most popular cake flavor.

White Chocolate Cake – Another light sponge cake with a mild flavor. The white chocolate is sweeter than regular vanilla. There are small bits of white chocolate throughout the cake. This flavor pairs well with a chocolate filling, as well as all the fruit flavors.

Rich Chocolate Cake – This is a very popular recipe. My chocolate cake is moist and rich, with a real chocolate flavor. This cake is a lighter chocolate than the Devil’s Food – but with plenty of chocolate flavor. This cake pairs well with a chocolate mousse filling, or vanilla buttercream.

Red Velvet Cake – The classic recipe from the South. Red Velvet is a light chocolate cake, dyed red. The flavor of the chocolate is subtle, but the red is unmistakably deep. The traditional filling for Red Velvet is Cream Cheese Frosting.

Carrot Cake – My carrot cake is dense, full of freshly grated carrots and delicious. The cake has a moist texture and holds up very well for a display. Contains pineapple and carrots, but the pecans are optional. Traditional frosting for carrot cake is Cream Cheese Frosting.

S’more Cake – One of my most popular summertime flavors. The S’more cake has a graham cracker flavored sponge cake, with toasted marshmallows and chocolate ganaché filling – it’s like a little bit of summer on your plate.

Pumpkin Spice Cake – This is a great cake for the fall and winter season. Dense and moist pumpkin cake that pairs well with a caramel or orange/vanilla buttercream.

Lemon Cake – Bright and fresh lemon flavors this wonderful light sponge cake. Lemon is a great flavor to brighten your mood and enhance any event. Lemon cake pairs well with vanilla buttercream, lemon filling and raspberry filling.

Strawberry Cake – Fresh strawberries form the base of this light pink cake. Strawberries are the star of the show and they create a wonderful fruity flavor in this cake. Pairs well with strawberry filling, Nutella buttercream, chocolate buttercream or vanilla buttercream.

Not Cake – Brownies, Rice Krispy Treats, Cheesecake, Fruity Pebble Treats or Styrofoam – Sometimes, people don’t want cake – I have made wedding cakes out of lots of different things, just let me know what your favorites are and I am sure we can come up with a plan to make your event special to you.

Frosting and Filling – My signature is real Swiss Meringue Buttercream. This frosting is light and flavorful, but not too sweet. If you are used to the typical American Buttercream, you will be pleasantly surprised when you try the SMBC. It has a glossy finish and takes color really well. The real butter gives it an off white hue – but the taste is fantastic.

I make my own fondant – it is light and natural tasting, somewhat like a marshmallow.

Buttercream can be flavored with many options – Chocolate, Nutella, Caramel, Peanut Butter, Coconut, Strawberry, Lemon and Raspberry to name a few. Choices are really unlimited.

Real Fruit Filling – Strawberry, Blueberry, Lemon, Raspberry and Apple. I also make a delicious Caramel Pecan filling traditional for German Chocolate cake.
